Avoiding the Next Flint: Testing School Water (POLITICO)

Politico’s Helena Bottemiller Evich highlighted shortcomings in safe tap water around the nation in recent columns for Morning Ag and Politico Pro on April 19.

Evich sheds a light on some of the issues surrounding provision of safe water in schools and childcare. She cited Alliance partners' recommendation for a practical way towards drinking water safety: utilizing the Child Nutrition Act requirement to provide potable water in the place where meals are served in schools on NSLP and throughout the day in childcare sites operating CACFP. Both the recommendation and Evich’s columns emphasize the need for appropriated funding to support sites in testing tap water and mitigating contamination when present.
